Kissing Hand Art

If you're looking for a great way to commemorate your child's first day of school or for a great project to do with your classroom, might I suggest reading The Kissing Hand and then making your own kissing hand project! Every parent loves remembering the little hands that their children once had, and this art project can do that forever and also bring back memories of that first day of school!

Start by tracing your child's hand on a piece of construction paper with their choice of color! Depending on your child's age, you can either let them cut it out on their own or you can help if your child is too young to do it themselves.

Once you have your hand you can use various ideas to add the "kiss" to the middle. If you have no objections, have your child put on some light colored lip gloss and put their very own kiss right in the center! You can also use a lip shaped stamp with some red ink.
Another option is to use a heart representing the love they are always carrying with them. You can make the heart with heart stickers, stamps, a heart shaped sponge and some paint, or let the child draw their own heart in the center of their hand.

As you can see, it is also an option not to cut the hand out at all, but to trace it on white paper and let your child color it as they see fit before adding their heart/lips/or whatever you choose to the center of their kissing hand.

Other variations of this project can include making a print of your child's hand using paint instead of tracing the hand and then adding your kiss/heart after the hand print had dried. You could also make your child's hand prints in bakers clay or something similar and then paint or draw your heart in after it's been baked.

If you would like to add a slightly different dynamic to this project, you can make your child's hand print on a piece of puzzle board. (Which can be found at most craft or education stores) Not only will there be a permanent record of your little one's hand print that you can keep forever, but you then have a puzzle that can provide hours of entertainment for you and your child!

I hope you have fun sharing some of these great projects with your chil(ren)!
